Bishop Murphy Appoints New Pastors for 16 Catholic Parishes Print E-mail

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, New York – July 2, 2008 –  The Most Reverend William Murphy, Bishop, Diocese of Rockville Centre appointed new pastors to 16 parishes effective June 25, 2008.

  • East Islip: St. Mary
  • Elmont: St. Vincent de Paul
  • Franklin Square: St. Catherine of Sienna
  • Freeport: Our Holy Redeemer
  • Kings Park: St. Joseph
  • Manorhaven: Our Lady of Fatima
  • Manorville: Sts. Peter and Paul
  • Massapequa: St. Rose of Lima
  • Massapequa Park: Our Lady of Lourdes
  • New Hyde Park: Holy Spirit
  • Oyster Bay: St. Dominic
  • Patchogue: St. Francis de Sales
  • Riverhead: St. Isidore
  • Sayville: St. Lawrence the Martyr
  • St. James: Sts. Philip and James
  • West Hempstead: St. Thomas the Apostle

 

East Islip: Father Donald Babinski was appointed pastor of St. Mary’s parish, East Islip.  Previously, he was pastor of St. Vincent de Paul parish, Elmont and associate pastor of Our Holy Redeemer parish, Freeport; St. Agnes Cathedral parish, Rockville Centre and St. Aidan’s parish, Williston Park.  Fr. Babinski was ordained to the priesthood in 1981.

Elmont: Father James Drew was appointed pastor of St. Vincent de Paul parish, Elmont.  Father Drew’s local assignments were: Sacred Heart parish, North Merrick; St. Peter of Alcantara parish, Port Washington; St. Hugh of Lincoln parish, Huntington Station; and St. James parish, Setauket. Father Drew was ordained for the Diocese of Honolulu and incardinated into the Diocese of Rockville Centre in 2005.

Franklin Square: Rev. Msgr. Richard Figliozzi was appointed pastor of St. Catherine of Sienna parish, Franklin Square.  He served as the bishop’s cabinet secretary for the Office of the New Evangelization and director of the Propagation of the Faith and Mission office.  Msgr. Figliozzi served as pastor of Our Holy Redeemer parish, Freeport; temporary administrator of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary parish, Roosevelt; and associate pastor of St. Frances de Chantal parish, Wantagh; St. Vincent de Paul parish, Elmont; and Our Holy Redeemer parish. Msgr. Figliozzi was ordained in 1979.

Freeport: Father Douglas Arcoleo was appointed pastor of Our Holy Redeemer parish, Freeport.  Since his ordination in 1998, Fr. Arcoleo served as associate pastor of St. Patrick’s parish, Smithtown and St. Ignatius parish, Hicksville.

Kings Park: Father Sean Gann was appointed pastor of St. Joseph’s parish, Kings Park.  He was ordained in 1994 and served as associate pastor of St. Lawrence the Martyr parish, Sayville and Christ the King parish, Commack.

Manorhaven:  Father Steven Peterson was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Fatima parish, Manorhaven.  Most recently, he served as pastor of St. Mary’s parish, Babylon.  Following his ordination in 1973, he was associate pastor of Good Shepherd parish, Holbrook and St. Joseph parish, Babylon.

Manorville: Father Bruce Powers was appointed pastor of SS. Peter and Paul parish, Manorville.  He was previously pastor of St. Elizabeth, Melville and St. Patrick’s parish, Bay Shore.  He served as associate pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes, West Islip; SS. Cyril and Methodius, Deer Park; St. Anthony of Padua, East Northport; and St. Rose of Lima, Massapequa.  Ordained in 1973, Fr. Powers also serves as Suffolk County Police chaplain.

Massapequa: Father Kenneth Zach was appointed pastor of St. Rose of Lima parish, Massapequa.  He was the pastor of St. Isidore’s parish, Riverhead.  He also served as associate pastor in both those parishes.  He was ordained in 1981.

Massapequa Park: Rev. Msgr. James Lisante was appointed pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes parish, Massapequa Park.  He was previously pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle parish, West Hempstead.  Ordained in 1981, Msgr. Lisante served as associate pastor of St. Boniface parish, Elmont and as director of the Diocesan Office of Family Ministry and coordinator of the Diocesan Respect Life office.

New Hyde Park: Father Joseph Nohs was appointed pastor of Holy Spirit parish, New Hyde Park.  Previously, he served as associate pastor of St. Raphael parish, East Meadow and Maria Regina parish, Seaford.  Father Nohs was ordained in 1993.

Oyster Bay: Father Kevin Smith was appointed pastor of St. Dominic’s parish, Oyster Bay.  Previously, he has served as pastor of St. Francis de Sales parish, Patchogue and associate pastor of St. Joseph parish, Ronkonkoma; St. Vincent de Paul parish, Elmont; St. Mary parish, Manhasset; and St. Rose of Lima parish, Massapequa.  Fr. Smith is also the diocesan scouting chaplain and was ordained in 1988. 

Patchogue: Father John McGratty was appointed pastor of St. Francis de Sales parish, Patchogue.  Fr. McGratty served as founding pastor of SS. Peter and Paul parish, Manorville.  Previously he served as associate pastor of St. Christopher parish, Baldwin; St. Boniface parish, Elmont; Our Lady of the Snow parish, Blue Point; St. Patrick’s parish, Southold; St. Elizabeth parish, Melville; St. John the Baptist parish, Wading River; and SS. Peter and Paul Mission, Manorville.

Riverhead: Father Robert Kuznik has been appointed pastor of St. Isidore parish, Riverhead.  Ordained in 1998, he was previously associate pastor of St. Christopher parish, Baldwin and Holy Name of Mary parish, Valley Stream.  He also served as associate director of the diocesan vocations office. 

Sayville: Father Nicholas Figliola has been appointed pastor of St. Lawrence the Martyr, Sayville. Previously, he served as pastor of Our Holy Redeemer, Freeport.  Fr. Figliola served as co-pastor and then pastor of St. Frances Cabrini parish, Coram.  Ordained in 1964 as a Capuchin priest, he served as chaplain at St. Anthony’s High School, which was then in Smithtown.  Incardinated into the diocese in 1981, Fr. Figliola served as associate pastor of St. Kilian’s parish, Farmingdale; Holy Name of Mary parish, Valley Stream; St. Martha’s parish, Uniondale; St. Elizabeth’s parish Melville and St. Patrick’s parish, Glen Cove.

St. James: Father Anthony Stanganelli has been appointed pastor of SS. Philip and James parish, St. James.  Ordained in 1979, he served as associate pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes parish, West Islip; St. Edward the Confessor parish, Syosset; St. Catherine of Sienna parish, Franklin Square; and St. Philip Neri parish, Northport.  Fr. Stanganelli was a member of the faculty of Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception, Douglaston.  Fr. Stanganelli was also co-pastor and pastor of Holy Spirit parish, New Hyde Park.

West Hempstead: Rev. Msgr. Francis Maniscalco was appointed pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle parish, West Hempstead.  He has been in residence there while directing the Diocesan Respect Life office.  Previously, he served as director of media relations for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, editor of The Long Island Catholic newspaper, director of the Diocesan Religious Education office and associate pastor of St. William the Abbot parish, Seaford.  Msgr. Maniscalco was ordained in 1971.
