Pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Westhampton Beach Named Monsignor by Pope Benedict XVI Print E-mail

Reverend Monsignor MirroROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – May 23, 2012 – The Most Reverend William Murphy, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, has announced that Pope Benedict XVI has conferred the title of “Monsignor” at the level of Chaplain to His Holiness upon Father Joseph Mirro. Reverend Monsignor Mirro is currently serving as pastor of Immaculate Conception parish, Westhampton Beach and Dean of the Peconic Deanery.

The honorary title of “Monsignor” is given to Roman Catholic priests as a sign of appreciation and recognition of the service they have rendered, both locally and in the world.

After he was ordained in 1976, Rev. Msgr. Mirro was assigned as associate pastor at Maria Regina parish, Seaford. He then served as associate pastor of Blessed Sacrament parish, Valley Stream and Saint Patrick’s parish, Bay Shore. In 1990, he was appointed pastor of Saint Jude parish, Mastic Beach. In 2002, Rev. Msgr. Mirro was appointed to his current assignment of pastor of Immaculate Conception parish, Westhampton Beach.

In addition to Rev. Msgr. Mirro, Pope Benedict XVI also conferred the title of “Monsignor” upon the following priests in the Diocese of Rockville Centre: Rev. Robert Clerkin, pastor of Saint Paul parish, Brookville; Rev. Thomas Costa, pastor of Our Lady of Mercy parish, Hicksville; Rev. Gerald Ringenback, pastor of Saint Bernard parish, Levittown; and Rev. Mark Rowan, chaplain, Colonel, U.S. Air Force.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre (www.drvc.org) was formed in 1957 and covers 1,198 square miles in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The diocese serves approximately 1,737,498 baptized Catholics (total population in both counties is approximately 3.4 million). There are 134 parishes (1 campus parish) in 115 towns.
