If you are a committed Catholic educator, wishing to develop in children a commitment to Catholic values and love of learning, then consider a position as an elementary school teacher in the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

The 43 elementary schools in the diocese employ over 1,400 lay teachers who provide quality education to nearly 40,000 students in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Requirements

Teachers in the Diocese are expected to meet the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 12 credits in Education.
  • Student teaching experience or its equivalent.
  • Provisional state certification or certificate of qualification and evidence of continued study for permanent certification.
  • Once hired, teachers are required to obtain a Basic Catechist Certificate. Catholic theology credits from college can be applied to this requirement.

To apply for a teaching position in a Catholic elementary school in the Diocese of Rockville Centre, teacher applicants are required to hold state certification. Each school does its own hiring, but there is a centralized application process, with the Education Department conducting pre-employment screening. Those candidates who meet the selection criteria will be referred to schools that are in need of their services.

If you are interested in a teaching position, send your resume to Mr. Biagio M. Arpino, Education Department, PO Box 9023 Rockville Centre 11571-9023, or FAX (516)678-7362. We will review your resume. There will be a $35 filing fee required with the application. When the application is returned to the Diocese of Rockville Centre, we will contact you regarding an interview. After the interview your name will be sent to the schools so that principals may contact you directly as openings occur.
