The Sisters of Charity, Halifax is a congregation of 700 Roman Catholic
sisters, founded in 1849. While the conregation is based in Halifax, Canada,
its members serve as well in New York, Boston and other areas of the United
States, Bermuda, the Dominican Republic and Peru. While the congregation's
historic focus was mainly in education and health care, today the ministries
of the sisters are as unique as the sisters themselves, the gifts they
bring and the needs in the community and church.
The Sisters of Charity's mission is to stand on the side of the poor.
Sisters now minister in parishes as pastoral associates, religious education
coordinators or home visitors. They work as teachers, administrators and
volunteers in schools and colleges. They serve the poor and disadvantaged
