"Nothing is more beautiful than love. Indeed, faith and hope will end when we die, whereas love, that is, charity, will last for eternity; if anything, I think it will be even more alive in the next life!" PGF
What a beautiful thought Pier Giorgio expressed: that love will be even more alive in the next life than anything we can experience here! It reminds me of what C.S. Lewis once wrote in an analogy of the afterlife: when a fetus is in the womb it has senses which it cannot fully experience until after it has been born - seeing the spectrum of colors, hearing the variations of sound and speech, appreciating enticing aromas and feeling an embrace; so, too, with us - who knows what we possess in our souls and spirits which we may not be able to experience until we are born into eternity?
Eternal love is something we can only catch a glimpse of now - but how important it is that we try to model that love for others! If we can help another human being experience just a foretaste of what God's love will be like, then we are practicing true charity. If we can live kindness, generosity and peace to the best of our abilities, then we become small, but effective, bestowers of God's grace on earth. We may not be able to experience or provide perfect love now, but we can offer our hearts to God in trust and humility, allowing Him to use that offering to bring others closer to Him...
Bl. Pier Giorgio, pray for us!
