While St. Margaret Mary had a unique relationship with Christ, there is one facet of it which we are all capable of having: a heart which listens to God. She spent so much time in prayer that her heart was always open to Christ’s promptings. Taking time to allow God into our own day helps our ordinary activities take on the sanctity that He intends for us.
Scripture gives us a revealing look into the benefits of being open to hearing God’s word for us:
“I will listen for the word of God; surely the Lord will proclaim peace to his people, to the faithful, to those who trust in him. Near indeed is salvation for the loyal; prosperity will fill our land. Love and truth will meet; justice and peace will kiss. Truth will spring from the earth; justice will look down from heaven.” (Psalm 86:9-12)
Don’t we all want those things? Lives full of love, truth, justice and peace? When we finally seek to hear and obey the Lord, the whole earth will be a meeting and an embrace of all these…and more, we can be sure. Listen today for the voice of God in your life – those little urgings towards Goodness which we all get. Pick up your Bible and read the life and passion of our Savior. Close your ears to the sounds of earth for a while and listen with your heart for the sounds of God's love…
St. Margaret Mary, pray for us!
