Fr. Solanus Casey probably didn’t start out thinking that he would make a major difference in the world. He just accepted his assignment as a porter with grace and put his whole heart into his work, listening carefully and prayerfully to each person who knocked on his door. But therein lies the beauty of how God works, because one person can make a difference.
In his popular novel, “The Shack”, William P. Young wrote: “If anything matters, then everything matters. Because you are important, everything you do is important. Every time you forgive, the universe changes; every time you reach out and touch a heart or a life, the world changes; with every kindness and service, seen or unseen, (God’s) purposes are accomplished, and nothing will ever be the same again.”
Incredible thought! And Fr. Solanus was living proof of that statement - he changed the world by cooperating with God's plan for his life. He never asked for more than he needed, and he never did less than he could; he simply changed the world one person at a time.
Being a part of the Communion of Saints means that our actions can make a difference also. Because we are all connected everything we do matters: we either raise up or drag down the Body of Christ. What small thing can we do today to lift up our world?
Ven. Solanus Casey, pray for us!
