"Oh, well may I love my God! and well may my whole soul strive to please Him, for what but the (song) of an angel can ever express what He has done and is constantly doing for me? While I live, while I have my being, in time and through eternity, let me praise my God." (St. Elizabeth Ann Seton)
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton believed with all of her being that God was worthy of her praise, for she believed that all good things came from Him. Human beings were made to praise God, perhaps because we are all drawn to one of God's greatest attributes: His Goodness. For if we did not believe in the ultimate goodness of God, how could we ever trust His word?
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." (James 1:17) God is unchanging - the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. It is because we have seen God's benevolence, integrity, and virtue in Christ that we are able to believe Him in all things. Confident of the genuineness of that goodness inherent in His humanity, we are able to come to Christ, put all of our trust in Him, and turn over every aspect of our lives to Him. This is what Elizabeth Seton, and all of the Saints, did.
Today, with our beloved Saint, truly ponder the goodness of God, for He is unable to be anything but good. Praise Him because He is worthy of our adoration, and trust Him with your life.
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us!
