"In her life as wife and mother, Gianna entrusted her future to Our Blessed Mother. In 1954, a Marian year, Gianna went on a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France as a doctor accompanying a train of sick people. After returning from Lourdes she confided to a friend: "I have been to Lourdes to ask Our Lady what I shall do: to go to the missions or to marry. I reached home...... and Pietro (her future husband) came in!". When Gianna met Peter Molla, she knew he was the man God had chosen for her. They married and Gianna told her husband: "I want really a Christian family, where God is like one of the family; a little cenaculum where He can reign in our hearts, enlighten our decisions and guide our programmes." We can learn so much from the beautiful relationship that Gianna had with our Blessed Mother during her life. Just like any child would confide in a parent before a major life decision she ran to Our Lady for guidance before deciding which vocation God was leading her to. Once she trusted that what was being revealed to her was married life, she wholeheartedly made that choice and wanted to make sure that God remained in her relationship with her husband and in her family.
Now in this beginning of Holy Week may we never forget that most beautiful gift which Jesus bestowed on us as he hung dying on the cross... His beloved Mother. To pray to her, to confide in her, to trust in her. She is our heavenly mother and what better role model and guide for every woman, wife, mother, and daughter than she! May we never tire in our prayers to her as she continues to guide us to her Son.
