FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Date: April 17, 2012
Lawrence E. McManus, CPA, is Catholic Health Services of Long Island’s (CHS) president and chief executive officer (CEO). He succeeds Richard J.J. Sullivan, Jr., Chairman of the CHS Board of Directors, who also served on a voluntary basis as chief executive, while a nationwide search for a new CEO was under way.
“Mr. McManus, who has spent the greater part of his professional life in Catholic health care, brings a rich complement of administrative, managerial and financial skills to his new position,” said Sullivan, who will continue to help guide CHS in his ongoing capacity as chairman of the board. “He comes to us from Saint Raphael Healthcare System in New Haven, where he has played a signal role in improving the financial and other metrics of that system.”
Formerly senior vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Saint Raphael, McManus brings 30 years of leadership experience to CHS. Prior to Saint Raphael, he was the vice president and chief financial officer for St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Having also consulted for CHS in the past, he is familiar with the organizational structure, values and history of the system.
A certified public accountant with a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, McManus is affiliated with a number of professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and is a fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. He has taught at Boston University, in addition to serving on numerous boards.
