The 17th annual 2008 Telecare Telethon to benefit the television station of the Diocese of
Rockville Centre. The theme for this year’s telethon is “Celebrating the Best in Catholic

Msgr. Jim Vlaun, president and CEO of Telecare, will anchor 18 hours of live programming
from the Telecare studios in Uniondale, N.Y. This year’s telethon will feature more guests
than ever before.
Scheduled to appear from the world of sports – the New York Islanders, the New York
Jets, and the New York Mets from 1986 (Darryl Strawberry, Ron Darling, etc.). From the
world of cooking – Lidia Bastianich, Dom Deluise, Frank Pellegrino from Rao’s, Sal
Scognamillo and others. From the world of entertainment, Johnny Maestro and the
Brooklyn Bridge, Susan Lucci, Gary US Bonds, Billy Joel Tribute Band Big Shot, and a host
of Doo Wop greats.
Additionally, young people from choirs and orchestras in the diocese will be performing
as well as a number of Catholic bands. Many priests, deacons, religious and laity from
the diocese will be guests. Our most honored guest, Bishop William Murphy, will close out
the telethon as he has done in the past.
The Telethon will air from 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 19 and Noon – 10 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 20.
