WHAT: 16th Annual Msgr. George A. Denzer Lecture
2009 Lecture: “Tobit as Righteous Sufferer: A Christological Reading of the Old Testament.”
WHO: The Msgr. George A. Denzer Annual Lecture at the Seminary was established in 1994 to honor this beloved and respected priest who was dedicated most of his priestly life to teaching Sacred Scripture. He joined the seminary faculty in 1945 having earned a doctorate in theology at the Catholic University of America.
Guest Speaker this year is Gary A. Anderson. Mr. Anderson is a professor of Old Testament/Hebrew Bible at the University of Notre Dame. He received his Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Civilization from Harvard University in 1985 and an M. Div. from Duke Divinity School in 1981. Professor Anderson has published a wide range of scholarly and general articles and essays on both the Old and New Testaments. He has presented his work as an invited speaker before numerous organizations. He recently addressed the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Academy of Catholic Theology, The Catholic Biblical Association and the Boston Patristics Assoc.
