Love is essential, so that without love all our efforts are in vain, no matter how much good we accomplish.”

Here St. Anthony echoes the words of St. Paul, who tells us in 1 Corinthians 13:1-3:  “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.”

Love IS essential to all that we do and should be the basis for all of our actions.  It’s difficult to love when we are hurt, angry or feel betrayed, but if we remember that Christ felt all of these emotions also, we can go to Him in prayer and pour out our hearts to Him.  We can ask for love to return to a situation, and we can make the effort to act charitably.  Remember, love is an action more than a feeling.  It is sacrificial in that we are putting others before ourselves.  Today, ask St. Anthony to help you do everything – work, family duties, and interactions with friends and acquaintances - with true love.

St. Anthony, pray for us!
