"...while I'm studying, every so often I ask myself: will I continue on the right path? Will I have the strength to persevere all the way? In the face of this pang of doubt, the faith given to me in Baptism reassures me of this: by yourself, you will accomplish nothing, but if you place God at the center of all your actions, then you will reach the goal." PGF
Bl. Pier Giorgio wrestled with doubts as much as any of us do; sometimes the uncertainty of life makes us wonder if we will be faithful through it all, or at all! He questioned his own abilities and perhaps even his belief at times, but he answered those queries with a basic tenent of our faith: with God at the center, we will reach the goal!
For each of us there are times when we question, when we struggle with ourselves and with God. But there is beauty in that struggle - and it was (and is) the struggle of all the Saints! Yet every one of them, like Pier Giorgio, kept their eyes and their focus on Christ - and came back to their baptismal promises again and again.
Our struggles do not define us - our constancy does. Each time we fall, if we fall at the foot of the Cross, it's where we are meant to be! Then, slowly, we rise again: more confident in our love, more faithful in our actions, more determined to be the Beloved Disciple. If you are in that place of doubt, plant in your heart a Scripture verse from St. Paul's letter to the Philippians which Bl. Pier Giorgio must have relied upon, and then rejoice!
"...being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6
Bl. Pier Giorgio, pray for us!
