Bishop William Murphy’s Schedule for Holy Week
and Easter |

Thursday, March 24
Morning Prayer - 9:00 a.m.
Chrism Mass - 11:00 a.m. -
Concelebrated by Bishop Murphy, the auxiliary Bishops
and numerous priests of the Diocese of Rockville Centre
who renew their vows of priestly service at the Mass.
Bishop Murphy also blesses the sacred oils that will be
used to celebrate the Sacraments throughout the diocese
over the next year.
Mass of the Lord’s Supper -
8:00 p.m. - During this Mass Bishop Murphy will wash
the feet of 12 people, commemorating Jesus’ washing the
feet of the disciples at the Last Supper. At the end of
Mass, there will be a procession to bring the Eucharist
to a repository in St. Agnes’ Parish Center. The altar
in the Cathedral will be stripped and the tabernacle
left empty.
Friday, March 25
Morning Prayer - 9:00 a.m.
Passion of the Lord- 3:00
p.m. - Includes the reading of St. John’s account of
the Passion and Veneration of the Cross.
Saturday, March 26
Morning Prayer - 9:00 a.m.
Easter Vigil - 8:00 p.m.
The Mass begins with the lighting of the Easter candle
which becomes the source for lighting candles in the
congregation. Catechumens are also baptized.
Sunday, March 27
Easter Sunday Mass - 11:00

About The Diocese of Rockville Centre
The Diocese of Rockville Centre was formed in 1957 and
covers 1,222 square miles in Nassau and Suffolk
Counties. The diocese serves approximately 1.5 million
Catholics (total population in both counties is
approximately 3 million). There are 134 parishes in 119
towns. Last year over 21,000 baptisms, 18,000
confirmations, 21,000 first communions and 5,000
marriages took place in the diocese. There are 2,622
students in kindergarten, 26,738 in primary or
elementary school, 11,979 in secondary school and 9,310
in higher institutions. There are 77 Catholic elementary
schools, high schools and colleges/universities in the
diocese. Catholic Health Services of Long Island
consists of five hospitals, three nursing homes, two
home care agencies, two senior housing complexes, a
community-based home for those with special needs and a
hospice. These facilities served over 743,000 people
last year. Last year, Catholic Charities assisted more
than 80,000 individuals who are poor, vulnerable and
