OBITUARY
Reverend Thomas P. Curry
Pastor Emeritus, Church of St. Martha, Uniondale

The Reverend Thomas P. Curry who served as a priest of
the Diocese of Brooklyn and Rockville Centre for 54
years, died after a long illness on November 1, 2005 at
Queen of Peace Residence in Queens Village. He was a
week shy of his 82nd birthday.
Born in Brooklyn on November 8, 1923 to the late James
and Mary McDonough Curry, Thomas Curry attended Bishop
Loughlin High School and Cathedral College before
entering the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in
Huntington in 1945.
He was ordained a priest by Bishop Thomas E. Molloy at
St. James Pro Cathedral on June 9, 1951.
Father Curry’s first two assignments were as an
Associate Pastor to the Church of the Epiphany and
Church of Our Lady of the Angelus, both in the Diocese
of Brooklyn.
In 1955, Father Curry was named an Associate Pastor at
the Church of St. Boniface in Elmont and in 1967 became
an Associate Pastor at the Church of St. Hugh of Lincoln
in Huntington Station. In 1972, Father Curry was named
Administrator for the Church of St. John of God in
Central Islip after the Pastor became ill. He was
appointed Pastor a year later.
Father Curry was transferred to the Church of St. Martha
in Uniondale in 1976 where he served as pastor for 13
years until his retirement in 1989.
A wake for Father Curry was held on Thursday, November 3
at Queen of Peace Residence in Queens Village.
Bishop William Murphy will be the principal celebrant at
the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 4 at
Queen of Peace Residence in Queens Village. Monsignor
Vincent Keane will be the homilist. Burial will be at
St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village.
Father Curry is survived by his sister, Eileen
Fitzgerald of Mineola, as well as nieces and nephews.
