Catholic Schools Week 2005 |

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NEW YORK, January 24, 2005 - Catholic
schools throughout the Diocese of Rockville Centre are
planning a wide-variety of activities to mark Catholic
Schools Week, which will be celebrated January 30 to
February 5, 2005. The theme this year is “Faith in Every
Student.”
Every year during Catholic Schools Week, many unique,
individual schools come together as one in praise of
Catholic education, reaching out to others to share
their enthusiasm and values through a series of
activities geared to the parish, community and nation,
as well as to students, friends, faculty and staff.
“Not only do we have faith in every student, we know
that Catholic schools give us the best opportunity to
pass on the faith to the next generation,” said The Most
Reverend William Murphy, Bishop of the Diocese of
Rockville Centre.
Bishop Murphy added, “I have observed the dedication and
concern that the administrators and teachers show each
day, often at great personal sacrifice. To each of them
I say thank you for all that you do to make our schools
places where academic excellence is expected of all and
where the faith is taught, experienced and lived out on
a daily basis.”
“I invite you to join in your local parish or regional
Catholic School Week celebration,” said Sister Joanne
Callahan, OSU, superintendent of schools, Diocese of
Rockville Centre. “See for yourselves what it means to
be a school with faith in every student,” she added.
Most schools will begin Catholic Schools week with an
opening Mass. A number of schools are celebrating their
50-year anniversaries including: Long Beach Catholic
Regional, Long Beach; Maria Regina School, Seaford and
St. William the Abbot, Seaford. For more information on
specific activities, contact the Office of Public
Information at 516-678-5800, ext. 633.
There are nearly 24,000 students currently enrolled in
the 57 Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of
Rockville Centre.
