Bishop Murphy To Ordain Colombian
to the Priesthood

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NEW YORK, June 8, 2005 – Bishop
William Murphy will ordain Jaime Calderon-Hernandez, 34,
to the priesthood for the Diocese of Rockville Centre at
an 11:00 a.m. Mass on Saturday, June 11, at St. Agnes
Cathedral in Rockville Centre.
Deacon
Calderon-Hernandez’s home parish is St. Luke’s,
Brentwood. Deacon Calderon-Hernandez served his pastoral
year at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, East Northport. On
December 8, 2004, he was ordained a deacon and then
continued to work at St. Anthony’s as a deacon.
Deacon Calderon-Hernandez, of Manuzales, Columbia,
studied computer science and for the priesthood in his
native Columbia. Discerning the call to priesthood
brought him to the Diocese of Rockville Centre. In 2003,
Deacon Calderon-Hernandez entered the Seminary of the
Immaculate Conception in Huntington where he completed
his theological studies. He graduated with his Master of
Divinity degree from the seminary on May 19.
He will celebrate his first Mass on Saturday evening,
June 11 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Luke's, Church, Brentwood.
He will also celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday,
June 12, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, East Northport.
The ordination Mass will be televised live on Telecare,
the diocesan television station, (Channel 29 on the
Cablevision cable system on Long Island). The Mass is
open to the public.

About The Diocese of Rockville Centre
The Diocese of Rockville Centre was formed in 1957 and
covers 1,222 square miles in Nassau and Suffolk
Counties. The diocese serves approximately 1.4 million
Catholics (total population in both counties is
