ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NEW YORK, Dec. 15, 2005 -- The
Diocese of Rockville Centre reports an eight-percent
increase in donations to the 2005 Catholic Ministries
Appeal, the annual fundraising effort for the Diocese.
This year, $10.9 million has been pledged to the appeal.
This compares to $10.1 million in pledges to last year’s
appeal. This year’s appeal also experienced an increase
in the number of participants, as over 44,900 gifts were
made. In 2004, there were 43,000 gifts.
“I am overwhelmed and extremely grateful for the
generosity,” said The Most Reverend William Murphy,
Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville
Centre. “My heartfelt thanks go to the Pastor’s Advisory
Committee, the Development Committee, the pastors and
the more than 1,000 volunteers who worked so hard to
make this year’s appeal a success. I’m also proud to
report that because of the hard work of the Development
and Pastors’ Advisory Committees in reshaping this
year’s appeal, 100 percent of the money raised will
directly help those in need.”
This year, the Catholic Ministries Appeal will support
five areas critical to the mission of the Catholic
Church on Long Island: Catholic Charities, Education,
Formation, Pastoral Outreach and Parishes.
