A Veteran’s Day Celebration Honoring
the Tuskegee Airmen
The Diocese of Rockville Centre’s Ministry to Catholics
of African Ancestry, in conjunction with the Nassau
County Office of Minority Affairs, presents a Veteran’s
Day celebration honoring the Tuskegee Airmen.
The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of African American
pilots who flew with distinction for the United States
Army Air Forces during World War II. Prior to their
formation and training at the Tuskegee Institute in
Alabama there had been no African American pilots for
the U.S military.
In 2002, New York State funded an expansion project for
the American Air Power Museum, which is located at
Republic Airport in Farmingdale. The new funds help
create interactive displays that highlight the role of
the Tuskegee Airmen and the Women Air Service Pilots in
World War II. |
