WHAT: |
The Most Reverend William Murphy, S.T.D., L.H.D., Bishop
of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, will be the
principal celebrant and homilist at the Annual Diocesan
Red Mass. The Red Mass marks the traditional opening of
the judicial year. During this Mass all members of the
legal community, including judges, government officials,
attorneys, legal staff, paralegals and law school
faculty are reminded of the power they possess and
request God’s guidance in administering their office or
position with wisdom, justice, fortitude, compassion and
counsel. This year the Mass is returning to its origins
in St. Agnes Cathedral. The first diocesan Red Mass was
celebrated in St. Agnes in 1957, the year the diocese
was founded.
All members of the public are invited to attend this
Mass. All judges, law school deans and professors, and
government officials are invited to join in the Mass and
participate in a procession led by the New York State
Court Officers, Color Guard, members of the judiciary
and the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepluchre.
