WHAT: September 11 Memorial Dedication Ceremony.

A new September 11th memorial in Holy Rood Cemetery honoring the memory those who lost their lives on that day will be dedicated by the Most Reverend William Murphy, S.T.D., L.H.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

The memorial is comprised of two features: the first is an exact bronze replica of Michelangelo’s Pieta, behind which is a twelve-foot high black granite cruciform-wall, on which is inscribed over four hundred names, placed at the request of family members. This was done at no cost to the families; over 1200 individuals, businesses and organizations have donated toward this project.

The blessing will take place immediately after the All Souls Day Mass, a day the Church sets aside to pray for the dead.
