WHAT: |
Three bishop-catechists to visit Diocese of Rockville
Centre on Friday to introduce the National Directory for
Catechesis. (Catechesis is the education of children,
young people and adults in the faith of the Church
through the teaching of Christian doctrine.) |

WHO: |
Bishop Richard Malone of Portland, Maine will
discuss renewing our passion for Catechesis. Bishop
Malone will focus on principles of the Directory as they
provide guidance for the formation of all catechetical
personnel and the organization of catechesis at the
diocesan and parish levels.
Archbishop Daniel DiNardo, Coadjutor Archbishop of
Galveston-Houston will address the topic of
“Catechesis within the Worshipping Community.”
Bishop Donald Wuerl, of the Diocese of Pittsburgh
will address the topic of “This is Our Faith - This is
the Faith of Our Church.” |

About The Diocese of Rockville Centre
The Diocese of Rockville Centre (
www.drvc.org ) was
formed in 1957 and covers 1,222 square miles in Nassau
and Suffolk Counties. The diocese serves approximately
1.4 million Catholics (total population in both counties
is approximately 3.3 million). There are 134 parishes in
115 towns. Last year over 20,000 baptisms, 18,000
confirmations, 20,000 first communions and 5,000
marriages took place in the diocese. There are
approximately 22,000 students in Catholic elementary
schools; 13,000 in secondary schools and 3,300 in higher
institutions. There are 69 Catholic elementary and high
schools and one Catholic college in the diocese.
Catholic Health Services of Long Island consists of five
hospitals, three nursing homes, a community-based home
for those with special needs and a hospice. Last year,
Catholic Charities assisted more than 73,000 individuals
who are poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged on Long
Island.
