The Diocese Releases First of Educational DVD Series
on Faith
|
ROCKVILLE
CENTRE, NEW YORK, July 24, 2007—The Office of Faith
Formation of the Diocese of Rockville Centre recently produced
its first instructional DVD as part of an upcoming series on
faith formation. Entitled “An Introduction to the Bible,” the
three-part production describes in 17 minutes the true meaning
of the Bible as the “living and active” Word of God.
The DVD explains what the Bible is, how we know it is inspired
by God and how we can understand its meaning. The best-selling
non-fiction book of all time, the Bible is described as a
“love letter,” a gift to the community from God.
“If you open your heart, then you will do more than just read
about God,” says host Father Richard Henning, a biblical
theology professor at the Seminary of the Immaculate
Conception, Huntington. “You are going to meet God.”
The DVD was written by Father Henning and John Romanowsky,
associate director of technology of the Office of Faith
Formation.
“This is the beginning of a long-term effort to complement the
work the office has been doing,” said Romanowsky, who also
directed the DVD.
Future DVD topics may include the Eucharist, the Old
Testament, the New Testament, the canon of the Bible, the
Church and Christology, the Sacraments and moral theology.
As part of another series, an introduction to the Sacrament of
marriage is expected by the end of the summer, and a parents’
guide to the Sacrament of baptism is expected by mid-fall.
Romanowsky said there seems to be a widespread awareness of
the Bible DVD among religious education instructors and parish
leaders.
The producer of the DVD was Sister Mary Alice Piil, CSJ. The
DVD was made possible through contributions from the Dolan
Foundations.
“An Introduction to the Bible” is currently available only on
a parish level. Romanowsky said the Office of Faith Formation
hopes to make future DVDs available to the public.
