Diocesan Teens to Travel to Columbus, Ohio for
Three Days of Prayer, Workshops and Music
|
ROCKVILLE CENTRE,
NEW YORK, August 10 2007—The Youth Ministry Apostolate of
the Diocese of Rockville Centre will host a trip to Columbus,
Ohio for the National Catholic Youth Conference Nov. 8-10,
2007. More than 60 Catholic teenagers and their adult
chaperones from the diocese will attend.
The conference will provide opportunities for workshops,
talks, reconciliation, daily liturgy, and special activities
such as concerts and a dance.
“The conference, like World Youth Day, has the great capacity
to inspire and encourage our youth to live boldly their
Catholic faith,” said Tom Smith, coordinator of the diocesan
Youth Ministry Apostolate. “As we all know, there is great
strength and power in numbers, especially when gathered in the
name of Jesus and the Church.”
The conference also offers a thematic park featuring
interactive learning and service stations, arts and crafts,
games and music. Exhibits at Columbus’ thematic park—Port
Discovery—will include a sports field, a Catholic college
exposition, a space for creating sacred art and an area to
construct a house for Habitat for Humanity.
The theme of the event is “Discover the Way/Descrube el
Camino.”
Founded in 1983, the National Catholic Youth Conference now
attracts more than 20,000 youth and adults. Past host cities
have included Atlanta and Philadelphia.
Parishes in the Diocese of Rockville Centre attending this
year’s conference include Notre Dame parish, New Hyde Park;
Sts Philip and James parish, St. James; St. John the
Evangelist parish, Center Moriches; St. John Nepomucene
parish, Bohemia and Our Lady of Victory parish, Floral Park.
