New Pastor Appointed to Sacred Heart Parish,
Cutchogue
|
ROCKVILLE CENTRE,
NEW YORK, June 21, 2007—The Most Reverend William
Murphy,
Bishop, Diocese of Rockville Centre, appointed Father Joseph
W. Staudt pastor of Sacred Heart parish, Cutchogue, N.Y.,
effective June 27, 2007.
Born in Rockville Centre, N.Y., and raised in East Meadow,
N.Y., Father Staudt attended St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary,
then in Uniondale, N.Y., and earned a bachelor’s degree in
English from Cathedral College, Douglaston, N.Y. He attended
the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Huntington, N.Y.,
and was ordained into the priesthood March 4, 1978.
“I’m grateful to God for the gifts of the priesthood,” he
said. “I thank God everyday for it.”
Father Staudt’s first assignment was associate pastor of
Corpus Christi parish, Mineola, N.Y., followed by St.
Sylvester parish, Medford, N.Y. and St. Patrick parish, Bay
Shore, N.Y. In 1997, he was appointed pastor at Christ the
King parish, Commack, N.Y.
He said he enjoyed his time at the Commack parish.
“I had 10 wonderful years with the people of Christ the King
and I’m looking forward to having wonderful years with the
people of Sacred Heart.”
Father Staudt serves on the board of Catholic Charities and
the Education Department’s Pastors’ Council.
He enjoys exercising, reading, playing the drums and listening
to anything from Jimi Hendrix to Metallica to Gregorian
chants.
Father Staudt said his parishioners know about his eclectic
tastes.
“They’ve come to expect it. They aren’t surprised by
anything.”

Celebrating its Golden Jubilee, the Diocese of Rockville
Centre (www.drvc.org) was formed in 1957 and covers 1,198
square miles in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The diocese
serves approximately 1.4 million Catholics (total population
