Diocese of Rockville Centre

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NEW YORK, September 29, 2004 – The Most Reverend William F. Murphy, S.T.D., L.H.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, authorized a special Sunday collection to assist people affected by the recent hurricanes that have hit the Southern U.S. and nations of the Caribbean.

Pastors are asked to take up the collection before October 30, 2004 so funds may be dispersed to the region as soon as possible. “The devastation and loss of life experienced in places like Haiti, Grenada and Florida is tragic and has hit home here in this diocese as we have families with loved ones in the areas affected by the hurricanes,” said Bishop Murphy. “Parishioners here on Long Island have always been remarkably generous in sharing God’s gifts with those in need and I know they will continue to do so.”

To contribute to the Hurricane Relief Fund, parishioners are asked to contact their local parish or the Diocese of Rockville Centre, 516-678-5800, ext. 583.
