“In God’s will there is great peace.” (St. Josephine Bakhita)

We should strive to know God's will for every situation in our lives, from major life choices like our vocation or a spouse if we marry, to minor ones like how to spend our leisure time or deal with everyday problems.  But how do we discover His will for us?  How will we know?  St. Josephine Bakhita tells us that we will experience great peace when we are fulfilling God's desire for our lives.  The psalmist agrees:

I will listen to what God the LORD says;
   he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—
   but let them not turn to folly.
Surely his salvation is near those who fear him,
   that his glory may dwell in our land.  (Psalm 85:8-9)

If we walk in the ways of God's commandments and follow His laws we will be able to discern His will for us, and we won't "turn to folly."  If we have a holy fear of the God who created us to live within the sphere of His influence, we can be sure that peace will reign in our hearts.  Psalm 119 tells us:  "I rise before dawn and cry out; I put my hope in your words.  My eyes greet the night watches as I meditate on your promise." (v.147-148)   We should seek God's direction day and night, praying for an awareness of what He calls us to.

St. Josephine Bakhita found the peace of Christ when she took her vows as a Canossian Sister; she loved the Word of God and lived by it for the rest of her life.  Let us endeavor to take each step of our day conscious of the need to seek the path illuminated by the light of Christ.

St. Josephine Bakhita, pray for us!
