“Raise your heart to God and thank Him for whatever comes.” (Ven. Solanus Casey)

Raise_your_hearts.jpg“Lifting our hearts to the Lord” is a common expression, but how does one actually do that?  Perhaps when we take our hearts, minds and souls to another plane, a spiritual one, we lift them up.  When we praise and ponder the beauty and goodness of our Maker, the wonders He has accomplished throughout the ages and in our own lives, then we raise up our hearts.  St. Paul echoes this thought in his letter to the Philippians:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)

On this day when we set aside time especially to give thanks to our God, let’s take both Fr. Solanus’ and St. Paul’s advice – when we raise our glasses, let’s lift our hearts!
