Diocesan Youth Ministry (Click here to access Youth Ministry)
Under the new configuration of diocesan departments, the Youth Ministry Apostolate for the Diocese of Rockville Centre is situated within the Office of New Evangelization. Youth Ministry includes those parish youth ministry programs and Catholic high school campus ministries which serve the age group of 13-18. The Youth Ministry Apostolate is also affiliated with Scouting and CYO athletics.
In responding to the late Holy Father John Paul II's call for a dynamic "new evangelization" of the Church and modern culture, the Youth Ministry Apostolate seeks to form young people and provide resources for youth ministers to be continually transformed by an encounter with Christ and from that experience renew humanity through a life committed to holiness. We offer diocesan-wide youth rallies, retreats for youth, days of recollection and training workshops for youth ministers, as well as direct service to the poor through local community service projects. We serve a population of several thousand youth, most directly through the parish youth ministers of the 134 parishes of the diocese.
We also plan to attend World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney, Australia. The most attractive force for young people to become engaged in their faith is to meet and experience true communion with Christ and other youths who are committed to the same Church, values and respect for life. Diocesan Youth Ministry therefore endeavors to meet this need by creating opportunities for this encounter.
Scouting
The Bishops of the United States have adopted Scouting as
part of the Church’s ministry to young people. Under the guidance
and with the support of the Office of Youth Ministries, the
Diocesan Catholic Committees on Scouting offers vibrant activities
for the Catholic girls and boys involved in Scouting.
CYO Support
This area serves as ministerial resource to CYO of Nassau
& Suffolk (which is the organization that coordinates
athletic activity for youth throughout the diocese) by offering
coaches clinics in a variety of sports and coordinating the
annual CYO Enrichment Day.
Young
Adult Ministry
Ministry to, with, and for women and men, single or married,
who are defined by a particular life stage of development
(late teens, 20’s, and 30’s) that includes: (a) serving as
advocate for this population on every level of parish and
diocesan ministry, (b) serving as resource for other parish
and diocesan ministerial leaders who connect, or seekto connect,
with this population, and (c) fostering the movement and growth
toward maturity and freedom within and among young adults
through specific events.
