BISHOP BARRES ISSUES INVITATION TO CATHOLICS IN DIOCESE OF ROCKVILLE CENTRE TO PRAY FOR SURVIVORS OF CLERGY SEXUAL ABUSE

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NEW YORK – SEPTEMBER 10, 2018 – Bishop John O. Barres, Bishop, Diocese of Rockville Centre issued an invitation to Catholics in the Diocese of Rockville Centre to pray for survivors of clergy sexual abuse and to pray for the reform, purification and sanctification of the Church.

“On Friday, September 14, 2018, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and on Saturday, September 15, 2018, the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, we have a unique opportunity to pray for survivors of clergy sexual abuse and to pray for the reform, purification and sanctification of the Church in all areas and in all of her members,” said Bishop Barres in a letter sent to priests of the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

On Friday, September 14, 2018, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Bishop Barres will engage in prayer, fasting and abstinence in reparation for the sin of abuse and for the intention of prayer for survivors of abuse. He invites all bishops, priests, deacons, religious and lay people in the Diocese of Rockville Centre to join him in this commitment.

On Saturday, September 15, 2018, the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, we ask that all Catholics pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary for these intentions, focusing on the Fifth Mystery, the Crucifixion. Bishop Barres invites everyone to meditate on Our Lady of Sorrows at the Foot of the Cross interceding for survivors of abuse and interceding for the reform, purification and sanctification of the Church.
