HOLY WEEK AND EASTER MASSES
Holy Thursday through Easter Sunday
April 18 – April 21, 2019

HOLY THURSDAY CHRISM MASS – April 18, 2019 – 11:00 a.m.
St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570.
Bishop John O. Barres is the main celebrant and homilist.  This Mass is a clear expression of the unity of the priesthood and the sacrifice of Christ which continues to be present in the Church.  During the Mass, Bishop Barres will consecrate the Oil of Chrism and bless the Oil of Catechumens and Oil of the Sick.  These holy oils will be used throughout the diocese during the coming year in celebration of the Sacraments.  This Mass will also be the opportunity where priests in the Diocese of Rockville Centre will renew their call to the Holy Priesthood.

The Mass will be broadcast live on the Catholic Faith Network: Optimum channel 29/137, Verizon FiOS channel 296 and Time Warner Cable channel 471.  Viewers can also watch the Mass online at www.cfntv.org

HOLY THURSDAY MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER.  April 18, 2019 – 8:00 p.m.
St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570.
Bishop John Barres is the main celebrant.  This Mass commemorates the Last Supper, during which Christ instituted the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist, the Sacrament of Holy Orders and gave us His commandment to love one another.  After the homily, following the example of Christ who washed the feet of the apostles during the Last Supper, Bishop Barres will wash the feet of parishioners.  At the end of Mass of the Lord’s Supper, the Eucharist is brought, in procession, to an Altar of Repose in the Msgr. Kelly Parish Center.  The Center is then open until midnight for people to spend time in adoration.

The Mass will be broadcast live on the Catholic Faith Network: Optimum channel 29/137, Verizon FiOS channel 296 and Time Warner Cable channel 471.  Viewers can also watch the Mass online at www.cfntv.org

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE. PASSION OF OUR LORD.  April 19, 2019 – 3:00 p.m.
St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570.
Mass is not celebrated on Good Friday.  Bishop John Barres will preside at a celebration of the Lord’s Passion.  According to the Church’s ancient tradition, the sacraments are not celebrated on Good Friday or Holy Saturday.  During this celebration, Christ’s crucifixion is remembered through the Liturgy of the Word that includes Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion. During the 3:00 p.m. service, we will silently adore the cross that has been placed at the steps of the sanctuary.

This service will be broadcast live on the Catholic Faith Network: Optimum channel 29/137, Verizon FiOS channel 296 and Time Warner Cable channel 471.  Viewers can also watch the Mass online at www.cfntv.org

HOLY SATURDAY EASTER VIGIL – April 20, 2019 – 8:00 p.m.
St. Agnes Cathedral, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre, NY 11570.
Bishop John Barres is the celebrant and homilist at the Easter Vigil Mass celebrating the Resurrection of Christ.  The Vigil begins in total darkness with the lighting of the Easter candle.  There are four parts: Light Service (Blessing of the Fire and lighting of the Paschal Candle), Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of Baptism and the Eucharist.  After a reflective and intense period of prayer during Lent, Catechumens (those who have not been baptized) and Candidates (those who have been baptized in other faiths) will become full members of the Catholic Church at St. Agnes Cathedral and in parishes throughout the Diocese of Rockville Centre.

Catechumens, who have never been baptized, will receive baptism, confirmation and first Communion at the Holy Saturday Easter Vigil. Candidates, who have already been baptized in another Christian tradition whose baptism is recognized by the Catholic Church, will enter the Church through a profession of faith and reception of confirmation and the Eucharist.

The Mass will be broadcast live on the Catholic Faith Network: Optimum channel 29/137, Verizon FiOS channel 296 and Time Warner Cable channel 471.  Viewers can also watch the Mass online at www.cfntv.org
