"Shake off excessive worry and show a little confidence in God's merciful providence." (Ven. Solanus Casey)
The other day I saw an ad for a local hospital on the side of a bus: "Mercy's got your back". Although they were advertising spinal surgery, it made me think that the statement was even truer about God. Fr. Solanus would undoubtedly agree, for his life's work was all about God's mercy and benevolence.
When Fr. Solanus prayed for those who came to him, he was begging God's mercy for them. He must have prayed a similar prayer to King Solomon's at the dedication of the new temple: "Yet give attention to your servant's prayer and his plea for mercy, Lord my God. Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day...Hear the supplication of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from Heaven, your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive." (1 Kings 8:28, 30)
The many cures, restorations, and healings which he procured from Heaven were all dependent upon a merciful God. Fr. Solanus had a sure and certain understanding of the workings of God's faithful generosity. He would assure you today that when you are in the need of God's blessing and favor you should remember: "Mercy's got your back!"
Ven. Solanus Casey, pray for us!
