"It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than to do so without the Holy Mass." (St. Padre Pio)
We learn as small children that the earth cannot sustain life without the sun. A world in darkness is a dead world. So it is fitting that Padre Pio recognized how much we need Christ in the Eucharist to bring light and life to our existence.
The Advent hymn, "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" rings out to us:
"O come, Thou Day-spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight..."
We, too, need the Son to survive! Padre Pio's life truly revolved around the Eucharist. In this last week of Advent, perhaps it would be fitting if we put aside some of the hustle and bustle of the season and ask God to "orderest all things mightily" in our lives by attending Mass. Get your daily dose of Son-shine!
St. Padre Pio, pray for us!
