No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends. (John 15:13)
Gianna Beretta Molla sacrificed her own life for her child's, not allowing anything to be done to disturb the pregnancy. She insisted on putting her child's life before her own.
Today is Holy Thursday and after the Last Supper the Lord spent the night before his Crucifixion praying in the garden of Gethsemane. Why is prayer SO IMPORTANT? It is so important because we are human and there may be moments of sacrifice in our lives that we NEED God to give us the strength to follow His will despite our own fear!
Gianna lead a life of prayer following the example of Jesus...and in the moment where she choose to sacrifice her life for her child, God gave her that courage and strength to do so no matter what any doctor or friend may have said to persuade her. Prayer gives us the opportunity to see God in all the small moments we have to sacrifice during our day for others. Sacrifice leads us closer to following the example of Christ and uniting more closely with Him.
Each time we receive the Eucharist we receive a little more strength for our souls to live for God rather than for ourselves. We receive the grace to change our hearts just that little bit more. We receive the ability to be more receptive to the Holy Spirit when he beckons us in charity. We receive the courage to sacrifice everything for the One who sacrificed EVERYTHING for us.
