Advances in medical technologies bring new means of curing disease and living longer. But they can also be the source of heightened patient anxiety about needlessly prolonged painful and expensive dying process. Last month, the Bishops representing the eight dioceses of New York State issued a new guide designed to explain the moral principles of Catholic teaching with regard to end-of-life decision-making and to outline options in New York State for advanced care planning.
This forum will provide a study of this guide and of Catholic teaching regarding Do Not Resuscitate Orders, Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment Health Care Proxies and the legal options in New York State.
During this forum you will be able to ask questions regarding decision making standards and guidelines on how to choose a Health Care Proxy.
Mass celebrated by Bishop Murphy will conclude the morning.
