ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – 30 June 2009 – The Most Reverend William Murphy, Bishop, Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre, appointed Rev. Msgr. William Koenig rector of St. Agnes Cathedral parish, Rockville Centre. Msgr. Koenig served as associate pastor at St. Agnes before his appointment as pastor of St. William the Abbot parish, Seaford in 2000.
Ordained in 1983, Msgr. Koenig was associate pastor at St. Edward the Confessor parish, Syosset and St. James parish, Setauket, where he was also campus minister for Stony Brook University. From 1989-1996, he directed the diocesan vocations office, and in 1990 he was also named diocesan director of ministry to priests. In 2007, Msgr. Koenig received papal honors and the title of monsignor.

The Diocese of Rockville Centre (www.drvc.org) was formed in 1957 and covers 1,198 square miles in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The diocese serves approximately 1.5 million Catholics (total population in both counties is approximately 3.4 million). There are 133 parishes in 115 towns.
