West Islip, NY – The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation held the second in a series of Healthy Beauty events, in an effort to promote wellness for the mind, body and soul.  This special evening, held at Spa 85 Salon in Bay Shore, was attended by members of Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center’s bariatric support group.  The approximately 20 members of the group who were present have made a commitment to a healthier lifestyle.

Bariatric Healthy Beauty SpaExecutive Director of The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation Kathy Dulanto once again welcomed attendees to the salon.  Each event in the Health Beauty series has a particular focus, with members of Good Samaritan’s bariatric support group invited to participate this time.  Bariatric Coordinator Roseann Deluca, RN, BSN, and Registered Dietitian Lauren Vocile, MS, RD, CDN, led the health education portion of the evening, while the salon staff provided beauty consultations to the guests.  The evening was both informative and fun, with professional styling tips and complimentary, future nail appointments offered to the group, along with a grand prize of a total makeover offered through a lottery.  The winner of the grand prize was Darice Blackman, who was able to enjoy her gift on her birthday.

Good Samaritan’s bariatric support group is open to individuals, along with their loved ones, who have had or are planning to have weight-loss surgery.  Those who are considering bariatric surgery are encouraged to attend three meetings prior to the procedure.  These informal meetings allow time for personal sharing, encouragement and discussion.

Spa 85 Salon owners Glory and Paul Federico have supported Good Samaritan in various ways, such as by providing free salon services to patients hospitalized in the Palliative Care Unit.  The Foundation’s Healthy Beauty series will continue in January, with dates and locations to be announced.  For more information, call The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation at (631) 376-4365.  Those who are interested may call (631) 376-4444 for information on bariatric surgery and a schedule of support group meetings.
