Office for the Protection of Children and Young People
The mission of the Diocese of Rockville Centre’s Safe Environment Program is to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse and other forms of misconduct involving children and young people. We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all children and young people entrusted to our care in our parishes, schools, Faith Formation programs, and other Diocesan entities and programs.
We fulfill this mission through three key areas:
-
Education and Training – Providing initial and ongoing Safe Environment education and training to clergy, employees, volunteers, children, and young people to help them recognize, prevent, and appropriately report suspected child abuse or misconduct to the proper civil and Church authorities.
-
Background Screening – Requiring clergy, employees, and volunteers who work with or have access to children and young people to complete appropriate background screening in accordance with Diocesan policies and procedures.
-
Standards of Conduct – Requiring clergy, employees, and volunteers to acknowledge and comply with the Diocesan Code of Conduct and maintaining clear standards for appropriate behavior, professional boundaries, and interactions with children and young people.
