ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – October 6, 2017 — The relics of one of the Catholic Church’s most beloved saints, Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, will be on display for veneration at the Church of Saint Rocco (18 Third Street, Glen Cove, NY 11542) on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Saint Pio Foundation organized this tour of Padre Pio’s relics in the United States in honor of the 130th anniversary of Padre Pio’s birth and the 15th anniversary of his canonization.
Padre Pio’s relics will be in the Parish Hall from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The relics will be officially welcomed during the celebration of the 10:15 a.m. Mass. This Mass will be celebrated by The Very Reverend Dom Daniel Stephen Nash, Can. Reg., Prior, Canonry of Saint Leopold and Pastor, Church of Saint Rocco. At 3:00 p.m., the relics will be transferred to the church for viewing until 8:00 p.m.
“It is a great honor for us at Saint Rocco – where there has long been a great devotion to Padre Pio – to have been asked to welcome his relics on behalf of the Diocese of Rockville Centre,” said Father Daniel Nash, pastor, Church of Saint Rocco. “We hope that many people will be able to share with us this wonderful opportunity.”
Padre Pio’s ministry spanned much of the twentieth century in Europe, including two world wars. His vocation was distinctively Franciscan and marked by profound prayer. Padre Pio was uncompromising in his preaching of the Gospel of Peace and spent much of his life ministering to pilgrims who visited him from all parts of the world seeking spiritual direction. This great saint and mystic wore gloves to cover the rare markings of Christ, the stigmata, on his hands.
