Rockville Centre, NY – Attendees will fill the pews at St. Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre on March 23th at 3:00pm for a special Closing Mass of Celebration to mark the end of the 100th Anniversary of Mercy Medical Center.

Established on the Feast of St. Patrick, March 17, 1913 in a 13-bed. former sanitarium in Hempstead by the Congregation of the Infant Jesus, the Nursing Sisters of the Sick Poor, Mercy has grown over the decades into one of Nassau County’s leading medical institutions. Most recently, the Joint Commission recognized Mercy as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measure, Mercy was ranked “100 Great Community Hospitals” by Becker’s Hospital Review, and Mercy was ranked among the top hospitals in New York State — in the 2012 ratings of Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report.

The mass will be celebrated by the Most Reverend William Murphy, Bishop of Rockville Centre. It will give thanks for the century of compassionate care made possible at Mercy by the hard work and dedication of not only the hospital’s physicians, nurses and support staff but also The Friends of Mercy and the Council of Leagues auxiliary organizations, community residents and the continuing inspiration provided by the members of the founding Congregation.
