St. Anthony of Padua was known for his true humility.  When his gift of knowledge was first recognized by his peers, St. Francis of Assisi sent him the following note:  "It is my pleasure that thou teach theology to the brothers, provided, however, that as the Rule prescribes, the spirit of prayer and devotion may not be extinguished."

It was a lesson which St. Anthony never forgot - no matter how wonderful your gift, the only way to sustain it is with constant prayer and devotion to Christ.  He kept a vigilant prayer life and relished his relationship with his Lord.  True humility is not necessarily saying that we are worth nothing - humility is understanding that the talents and merits we have come from God.  Are you a gifted musician, accountant, parent, administrative assistant, housecleaner, artist?  How about a wonderful friend?  Today, take an honest inventory of your abilities, thank God for the good He has worked in you, and use what He has given you to help build His Kingdom on earth.

St. Anthony, pray for us!
