Diocese of Rockville Centre

St. Gianna's son, Pierluigi, offered these words on his mother's life at the unveiling of a stained-glass window in her memory: The witness of my mother was a hymn to life, to a love for life, and the beautiful things of life; it was a hymn to a faith lived with joy and nourished by the Eucharist and by prayer her joie de vivre was crowned with her love of piano, painting, tennis, mountain climbing, skiing, the symphony, theatre and traveling.

A Christian's life should always be joyful, no matter what their circumstances. Life is a gift from God, and if we are faithful we can achieve a balance between the difficulties life may bring and the joys it also offers us. Time spent in nature, celebrations with family and friends, time pursuing hobbies and sports, home-cooked meals, the arts all these cost little, yet can bring grace into our lives.

I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10:10) Jesus reminds us that life in Him is abundant life filled to the brim and overflowing! St. Gianna was not afraid to reach out and take all that God offered her; she willingly opened her arms to embrace life. Neither should we be afraid, for we know that God is lavish with His love let us also open our arms to Him.

St. Gianna Beretta Molla, pray for us!
