One could easily say that Gianna Beretta Molla's entire life was one of Catholic Action. Raised in a very devout family, from a young age she was involved in this movement whose aim was to mobilize the Catholic laity to live a more intense spiritual life. She took to heart their motto of: PRAYER, ACTION, SACRIFICE, and rallied other young people to good works in the community.

She wrote in a letter to her husband, Pietro: With God's help and blessing, we will do all we can to make our new family a little cenacle where Jesus will reign over all our affections, desires and actions. We will be working with God in His creation; in this way we can give Him children who will love Him and serve Him. She believed that her Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she built upon it with every prayer.

St. Gianna Beretta Molla is a saint for the family, a saint whose kitchen table was the altar she sacrificed at as she prepared meals, folded laundry and comforted her children. She is a woman who let God's grace permeate her entire being, to the point of offering her very life for the family she dearly loved. This month, as we look at her life, may we all be inspired to allow that same grace to work in us.

St. Gianna Beretta Molla, pray for us!
