Diocese of Rockville Centre

This month we look at the life of Venerable Solanus Casey, a man whose road to sainthood should give us all hope.  Born to a poor Wisconsin farming family, struggling through school, questioned on his vocation, and holding the position of a humble doorkeeper for most of his religious life, he nonetheless was a true vessel for God's goodness and love.

fr.solanus.jpgFr. Solanus would often comfort people who were in desperate situations, and although he was ordained a "simplex priest" who was not allowed to preach homilies or hear confessions, he was able to speak to people's hearts in such a way that their faith was renewed and strengthened.   One of his favorite prayers was:  "Blessed be God in all His designs."  He recognized that God has His hand in all things, bringing good out of evil and hope out of despair.

The prophet Isaiah spoke these words about God and His providence:  "Behold, the LORD'S hand is not so short that it cannot save; nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear." (Isaiah 59:1)

Fr. Solanus' life was living proof of Isaiah's statement.  As we reflect on the wisdom of this saintly porter this month, let us remember to not discount God's provision for us when we are in need.

Ven. Solanus Casey, pray for us!
