Father Solanus Casey kept journals where he logged in some of the thousands of intercessory prayers he made during his years as a porter.  He was faithful in recording the prayers and their outcomes; and while not every prayer was answered positively, the books show God's faithful interaction in the lives of His people.

journaling.jpgKeeping a prayer journal is an effective tool for every Christian.  In it we offer God our lives, our relationships, and our day-to-day joys and sorrows.  By recording the prayers we make for others and our own praise and requests, we can watch our walk with God take shape and form.  We will begin to see a parallel between our prayer and our life, and the relevance of our time with God will become apparent.

With the holidays fast approaching, this month might be a wonderful time to start journaling.  If we take a part of each day to quiet our hearts and minds and write out our deepest hopes, it can be a wonderful counteraction to the sometimes frantic pace of the Advent season and perhaps even make it more meaningful.

Why not ask Fr. Solanus' intercession in this task?  We don't need to be eloquent scribes; we simply need to share our hearts with Christ.

Ven. Solanus Casey, pray for us!
