New Book by Parishioner of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Floral Park

Jerome’s Tears: Letters to Friends in Mourning

David Bonagura, a parishioner of the Parish of Our Lady of Victory in Floral Park and adjunct professor at St. Joseph’s Seminary, has published Jerome’s Tears: Letters to Friends in Mourning.

The book is a fresh translation of seven of Jerome’s moving letters of consolation addressed to friends who lost spouses, children, and other relations. “St. Jerome’s steadfast faith and keen insights into the human soul speak as intimately to us who mourn today as to his friends centuries ago,” Prof. Bonagura commented.

“In comforting his friends, Jerome comforts us too.” Cardinal Timothy Dolan, in his endorsement of the book, said, “Those in mourning usually report heavy reliance upon faith, family, and friends. David Bonagura, whose previous works have unfailingly inspired, tells us St. Jerome would agree! What an uplighting perspective from a father of the Church bringing ancient wisdom to the wounds of today!”

Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education.

The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The pandemic hit particularly hard the Christians in the Holy Land. Most of them depend on pilgrimages to work. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection is also necessary to meet the basic needs of the People of God still living in this Land where the Church was born.
