Retrouvaille is a practical program for married couples facing difficult challenges
It is not a marriage retreat, or counseling. You will not be asked to share the personal details of your story.
Retrouvaille is different; it’s a way to improve your communication, help you reconnect, and build a healthy, happier, stronger marriage.
Catholic in origin, couples of all faiths, or no faith background, are welcome to attend. We are a Christian Peer Ministry offering tens of thousands of marriages hope in over 160 communities worldwide.
Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Syosset, NY to Close at the End of the School Year
Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset will close at the conclusion of this school year. This difficult decision was made because of changing demographics and lower enrollment. This announcement comes as a result of extensive deliberations by the school’s leadership and governing boards: OLMA Board of Directors, Mercy Education Board of Directors, and the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy, who have tirelessly worked to sustain the school’s viability in the face of many evolving educational landscapes.
The announcement comes as a result of extensive deliberations by the school’s leadership and governing board, who have tirelessly worked to sustain the school’s viability in the face of many evolving educational landscapes.
Our Lady of Mercy Academy has been a cornerstone of academic excellence and spiritual formation for countless students for nearly a century. The decision to close the school was made with a heavy heart but guided by a commitment to responsible stewardship.
Margaret Myhan, President, reflecting on the decision stated: “I assure you that the decision was not made lightly. It came after thorough consideration of the challenges facing many education institutions today: changing demographics and lower enrollment which radically affected our viability. I want to express my gratitude to our beloved Sisters of Mercy, Board of Directors, administration, faculty, staff, students, and the entire OLMA community for their unwavering support. Over nine decades, the faculty and staff of OLMA have played a pivotal role in shaping the lives of generations of students, instilling values that extend far beyond the classrooms so that they make a difference in our world. This legacy was built on providing academic rigor, character formation, and personal and professional development in a nurturing faith-based environment.”
Despite the closure, Our Lady of Mercy Academy remains committed to continuing our academic excellence while providing ongoing support for its current students and assisting them in transitioning smoothly to alternative educational institutions. The school will work closely with local Catholic schools and educational partners to ensure a seamless transfer for students, allowing them to continue their academic journeys in environments that align with OLMA’s values. Likewise, the school will support our faculty and staff as they seek new professional opportunities.
